Recount writing

Recount writng.gif

This term we have been learning how to plan and write interesting recounts. It is important to use the specific structures required by this genre of writing.Like: orientation, time connectives, adjectives, personal reflection and evaluation. Our class has been thinking about the main idea for each paragraph in our recount. We have then planned using a writing frame. This makes it easier to write our recounts.  It is also important to remember to edit our work. This means checking spellings, grammar, punctuation and using neat handwriting.

Taranaki Amazing Race

This afternoon we took part in the amazing race as part of our inquiry learning for this term.  We were looking at what skills our classmates posses and how they can have a positive effect on our team.  We had to work cooperatively to complete the tasks.  We had lots of fun!

Congratulations to the orange team who came first in this afternoons race.  Well done Nathan, Minhee, Danielle and Ricky what an excellent job!  Post a comment about your favourite part of the race.

Year 3 Fun Day

Friday was the Year 3 Fun day.  We all had a wonderful time.  First we started the day by completing a challenge called the Wings of a seed.

ON THE WINGS OF A SEED
Task

Just like seeds that are able to fly when released from a tree.  you are to make a structure that will allow a table tennis ball to stay in the air for as long as possible.

Materials

1 x table tennis ball
6 x sheets of A4 paper
4 ice block sticks
4 drinking straws
1 metre of sellotape
Scissors

Conditions

  • Only material supplied to be used
  • You do not have to use all of it
  • Your seed to be released by hand from the playground tower
  • Table tennis ball not to be damaged in any way

Judging Criteria

  • Time will be total time that your seed is in the air free falling.
  • Time will stop when the seed makes contact with any person object or ground.

We worked in groups of four to design our structure.

Congratulations to Heath, Danielle and Jazmyne who won the challenge for the whole year 3 syndicate!

After we found out the winners, we had a tug of war against the classes.

The final part of the day was Room 16's favourite where we had a water fight.  This is a picture of us before the action started, all set and ready for action.

What an awesome day we all had!!!
